Law One: Murphy’s Law
If anything can go wrong, it will - Edward Aloysius Murphy, Jr.
If there is any law that holds true no matter what, it has to be the one stated by Edward Murphy. He served in the US Military during the 2nd World War fighting in the Pacific Theater (India, China and Burma). After the war he became an aerospace engineer and worked for the US Air Force institute of Technology. But enough about the man. The law is what is i want to discuss.
The law is quite simple and straightforward. Anything that can or has the possibility of going wrong, it probably will. It doesn’t require a genius mind to figure this out. You have probably experienced it atleast once in your life. If you haven’t then you definitely will. There will come a day when almost everything you fear the most in a particular situation or situations will come true. That will be the day when everything will go wrong. A bad day indeed right?
Whenever i have experienced Murphy’s law, i have come to the following conclusions:
- It lasts usually the whole day. Almost everything you do goes wrong. No matter what.
- Several situations which you have been trying to deal with in the past few days/weeks/months usually come together on the day you least expect it and this results in everything going wrong.
- The after effects last for a couple of days.
I don’t remember how many times i have faced this law but i hate the feeling that comes with it. Not only does your day go awfully wrong but it saps your mental, emotional and physical energy to the point where you just feel like doing nothing but waiting for the day to end. But the law is right. And it is a reminder that when you know things are going to go wrong, better prepare for it rather than expecting something entirely opposite.
